Summing up the work of the 5th conference, Dr Dariga Nazarbayeva, Chair of the Eurasian Media Forum Organising Committee, said: “As usual, we have found a few answers and posed very many questions.”
She said that over the past five years, the Eurasian Media Forum had helped to bring East and West closer together, acting as an intermediary between civilisations.

The mass media had an important role to play in reducing the level of aggression in the world.
“There is no clash of civilisations, just weak human passions which we have to reconcile.”
Dr Nazarbayeva praised the professionalism of the organisation, the choice of topics and the contribution of the delegates to the “acute” quality of the debates.

“As a result of your knowledge and intelligence, you have planted a few seeds of doubt to question our stereotypes,” she said.

Dr Nazarbayeva ended with a word of sympathy for the US delegates, who she said had demonstrated patience and tolerance in dealing with criticism of American policies.
“The USA is a great country. As we say, those who have a lot will be held responsible for many things.”
