Opening speech by DARIGA NAZARBAYEVA,the Chair of the Eurasian Media Forum Organizing Committee
Distinguished Mr. Chairman, Ladies and gentlemen, participants and guests of the Eurasian Media Forum,
Dear friends,
We have a good occasion to smile and congratulate each other because we are gathered here now for the fifth time. This is the fifth anniversary of the Eurasian Media Forum!
It’s not quite a good round figure; it’s not really an anniversary. However, it’s worth being respected. You should agree that in these hard times it’s not that easy to bring the best international journalists to a remote city in continental Eurasia and keep such extremely busy people for three successive days, offering them discussions and debates as the main business.
To be completely serious one must accept that the Eurasian Media Forum has proved to be necessary. It occurred in the right time in the right place. And I dare to hope that it will still be helpful to the international journalistic community as a means of understanding and searching for truth. And you, dear participants and dear guests, have contributed a lot to making our forum not only an event but a phenomenon. Dear colleagues, I thank you kindly for that!
